The 2023 Pokémon Championship series is in full swing and champions have been crowned! Congratulations to Stadium Gaming's own HouseStark93 on winning the Baltimore Regional opening weekend!

If you are excited and looking to see where regionals are being held near you for the

2023 Championship Series we have you covered.

Season 12, the season of light is underway and changes in Pokémon GO have happened so the upcoming spotlight hours may now be more important.

GO Stadium has an excellent IV rank checker to show how your Pokémon is ranked, and you can adjust for any way you obtain the Pokémon. The website is linked in the terms section at the bottom along with some helpful explanations of common Pokémon GO phrases if needed.

Without further ado let's get into this edition which will include a concise PvP breakdown on IVs to target and how much to prioritize grinding for XLs during the weekly spotlight hours which occur on Tuesdays between 6pm and 7pm local time

— October 4  — Purrloin Spotlight —

Bonus: 2x XP for Evolving

Purrloin: Dark - 15/15/15 level 50 - CP 872

Liepard: Dark - 15/15/15 level 50 - CP 2087

Weaknesses: Bug, Fairy, Fighting

Resistances: Dark, Ghost, 2x Psychic

Catch Base Stardust: 100

Evolution Costs: 50 Purrloin candy > Liepard

2nd Charge Move Costs: 25 Purrloin candy & 10k stardust

2nd Shadow Charge Move Costs: 30 Purrloin candy & 12k stardust

LC: Purrloin: 0/14/13 level 26.5

GL: Liepard: 0/15/14 level 31.5

UL: N/A

ML: N/A

XL Priority: Low

Buddy Distance: 1 KM

Shiny: No

Mega Evolve: Gyarados, Houndoom, Absol

PVP Considerations:

Liepard learns Gunk Shot, which allows it to throw trash cans at your opponent, and Charm, which allows it to perform as a mediocre Charmer in formats where Charmers are not typically allowed. These are about all that Liepard can claim to its fame. If you hoard, get a good one for a just in case buff in the future, but there is limited potential.

Catch Base Stardust: 300

2nd Shadow Charge Move Costs: N/A

GL: Haunter: 1/15/14 level 28.5

GL: Gengar: 0/13/13 level 19.5

UL: Gengar: 0/15/14 level 34.5

ML: Gengar: 15/15/15 level 50

XL Priority: Medium

Buddy Distance: 3 KM

Shiny: No

Mega Evolve: Gengar, Venusaur, Beedrill

*** - this spotlight is for Haunter but you will gain Gastly candy which is the base form

PVP Considerations:

Haunter and Gengar are relevant in GO Battle League but their best days have past them by do to other Ghosts, such as Trevenant, that joined the scene. Gengar needs Shadow Punch, which is a legacy move, so you’ll either need an Elite TM or wait for an event in the future where it can learn the move. This is worth playing if you still need a Haunter or Gengar, but the main reason to play is Haunter being a 300 dust per catch Pokémon alongside a double dust bonus. Those two things stacked should make this a can’t miss event!

— October 18  — Misdreavus Spotlight —

Bonus: 2x XP for Catching

Misdreavus: Ghost - 15/15/15 level 50 - CP 2178

Mismagius: Ghost - 15/15/15 level 50 - CP 2957

Catch Base Stardust: 100

Evolution Costs: 50 Misdreavus Candy > Mismagius

2nd Charge Move Costs: 50 Misdreavus Candy + 50k Stardust

2nd Shadow Charge Move Costs: 60 Misdreavus Candy + 60k Stardust

LC: Misdreavus: 0/13/14 level 10

GL: Misdreavus: 1/15/15 level 29.5

GL: Mismagius: 0/15/15 level 21.5

UL: Mismagius: 0/14/15 level 42

ML: N/A

XL Priority: Low

Buddy Distance: 3 KM

Shiny: Yes

Mega Evolve: Gengar

PVP Considerations:

Misdreavus and Mismagius are nothing special in GO Battle League. Hoard a good one for a better future, but even then potential is limited.

— October 25  — Shuppet Spotlight —

Bonus: 2x XP for Evolving

Shuppet: Ghost - 15/15/15 level 50 - CP 1151

Banette: Ghost - 15/15/15 level 50 - CP 2599

Weaknesses: Dark, Ghost

Resistances: Poison, Bug, 2x Normal, 2x Fighting

Catch Base Stardust: 100

Evolution Costs: 50 Shuppet Candy > Banette

2nd Charge Move Costs: 50 Shuppet Candy  + 50k Stardust

2nd Shadow Charge Move Costs: 60 Shuppet Candy + 60k Stardust

LC: Shuppet: 1/15/14 level 19

GL: Banette: 0/14/15 level 24.5

UL: Banette: 6/15/15 level 50

ML: N/A

XL Priority: Low

Buddy Distance: 3 KM

Shiny: Yes

Mega Evolve: Gengar

PVP Considerations:

Banette is glassy and lacks low energy Charged Attacks. As with Misdreavus, you can get a good IV one just in case it ever gets buffed. Outside of that, might be better to just focus on hunting shinies if you don’t have them yet, or evolving for XP.
